The Fish Knife

This project has som fun with the concept of a knife that aesthetically matches its purpose. A knife where form can follow function without compromising on performance. This knife is super thin, flexible and light. The edge is razor sharp and its perfect for filleting or slicing fish and meat.

Its all in the details

The handle

The handle has the profile of a fish but makes no concession to comfort. The belly of the fish provides solid grip and precisely indexes the blade. The tapered mouth and bolster provide a perfect pinch grip for slicing, or a forefinger rest for filleting. The narrow waist gives perfect finger grip and the flared tail sits behind the pad of your thumb. This may be the most comfort

The bolster

The blade has a partial integral bolster. the thick shoulder slots into the open ‘mouth’ of the fish. The mouth is forged from layered bronze, hollowed and profiled to give that recognisable fish face and a smooth, solid grip point for a pinch grip. The cut out in the blade heel leaves room for the fingers, safe from the razor sharp blade.

The saya

The blade is light, thin and rakish so it has to dress to impress. This matched Zebrano saya is thin walled, felt lined for snug fit, angular and polished and finished with a miniature fish saya pin to lock the knife in place. The dark, straight grain has beautiful contrast and lovely little details that just flow from the tip to the back. This saya will keep the blade protected for its lifetime.
